Getting Around Like A Local
Whether you're a local, new in town, or just passing through, this page will provide you with all the information you need to get around with ease.
Public Transport
Buses
Jerusalem boasts an extensive bus network operated primarily by Egged. Bus services are frequent and cover almost every part of the city. Routes and schedules can be found on the Egged website or app, or you can use the Moovit App, which provides real-time updates, GPS navigation, payment for bus & rail tickets, and live route guidance.
Light Rail
The Jerusalem Light Rail is another convenient way to traverse the city, offering a comfortable and timely service that passes through many of Jerusalem's most visited locations. The Light Rail is operated by CityPass and uses the Rav-Kav Card, a rechargeable travel card that can be used on both the Light Rail and buses.
Trains
The Israel Railways service connects Jerusalem to other major cities in Israel. The high-speed link between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv has made inter-city travel quick and hassle-free. Check out their website or use the Moovit App for schedules and fare information.
Private Transport
Taxis and Rideshares
Taxis are plentiful in Jerusalem and can be hailed on the street, ordered via phone, or booked through apps like Gett or Uber (these are public taxis and run on the meter only).
Car
Driving around Jerusalem gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. However, parking can be challenging in the city center. It's recommended to use the Google Maps App or Waze App for real-time traffic updates and navigation. Remember to check local parking regulations before leaving your vehicle, though you can use Pango or Moovit to pay for parking as well..
Active Transport
Bicycles
Jerusalem offers a number of scenic bicycle routes. You can use the city’s bike-sharing program, or cycle at your own leisure. The Google Maps App has a bicycling option that shows bike paths and lanes to help you plan your route.
Walking
Walking in Jerusalem not only provides a zero-emissions way to get around, but it also allows you to enjoy the city's historical sites and beautiful vistas. Use the Google Maps App's pedestrian mode to guide your walk and discover new paths.
